Our annual Sankt Hans Aften and Midsommar celebration took place on 21 June 2025 — and what an absolutely wonderful evening it was!
We gathered in a beautiful private garden in Heslington, York, and were treated to perfect summer weather. The sun stayed with us all evening, and the garden looked absolutely gorgeous — full of colour, quiet corners and space for people to chat, eat and relax together. It had a very Scandinavian feel to it, which made the evening feel extra special.
Our new chairman, Beck Sinar, was brilliant — full of warmth, confidence and good humour. A natural host with no hint of stage fright, Beck kept things moving with her usual sparkle and set just the right tone for the evening.
The celebration began with drinks and music as guests arrived, and soon the tables were overflowing with food to share. There were flower crowns to make, games to try out, and of course the midsommarstång standing proudly in the middle of it all.
As the evening went on, we sang, we danced, and yes — we gave the frog and pig dances a proper go. There was plenty of laughter as we hopped like frogs and trotted like pigs, complete with croaking and oinking to match. No one was quite sure why we were doing it, but that was all part of the fun — and thankfully, lots of people joined in. It was a great moment to let go and enjoy the silliness together. A big thank you to Caroline Key, who led the dancing and kept us all going (and giggling), and to Andy and Helen Fisher for leading the singing — with Andy playing beautifully on his violin, which gave the whole thing a magical touch.
As the sun began to dip, candles were lit and we toasted snøbrød over the fire — a cosy way to end a light-hearted and happy evening. Just before we wrapped up, we gave a small gift to our kind hosts and said our goodbyes.
Thanks so much to everyone who helped out and came along — and to our photo team: Beck Sinar, Millie Walls, Caroline Key, Andy Fisher and Pernilla Tweddle — for capturing the evening so beautifully.
A relaxed, funny, and very hyggelig celebration. Roll on next year!
