About The Event

The Stamford Bridge Tapestry tapestry commemorates the battle which took place on this date in 1066, when the Saxons inflicted a heavy defeat on the invading Vikings.

The tapestry has been stitched in wool on linen by a team of local volunteers. It was started in September 2015 and completed in June 2021.

The event will take the form of two short talks, one about the history of the battle and one about the design and stitching of the tapestry. This will be followed by tea/coffee and cake provided by the venue. There will be a cost of £7 for this event.

This event is to be held at the tapestry's permanent exhibition at Platform 66, a gallery that forms part of The Old Station Club, 24 Church Road, Stamford Bridge, York, YO41 1DG.

Spaces are limited to 20 and the event is expected to be popular. If you would like to attend then please let us know well in advance. Priority will be given to members on a first come first served basis.

Please note that this is an afternoon event, starting at 2pm on Wednesday the 25th.
